AeroMexico Flight 576 was hijacked after leaving Cancun today. Unable to gain access to the cockpit the hijacking ended in Mexico City when Federal Agents re-took the aircraft. All 104 passengers were freed an hour after landing. Apparently the 5 hijackers were Bolivian Nationals seeking an audience with the President of Mexico.

Doesn’t say much for security screening in Cancun.
Also, interested in your thoughts on the NTSB new edict on the Hudson River airspace below the Class B. I didn’t the full statement, but won’t they have to raise the class b floor a little bit?

Rick;
I suspect they did a strong-arm type hijacking, 5 guys. It does show that the new procedures, deny them the cockpit, work. These knuckleheads will have to come up with a new plan.
The NTSB can only make suggestions, not regulation. If the FAA starts the process then you have to worry about airspace changes. I’ll take a look and see what they propose. Rediculous really, it wouldn’ have stopped the mid-air. True safety is never flying at all.

Now it appears it was one nut with a box that he claimed was a bomb. The others arrested were caught up in the confusion. The hijacker says 09/09/09 was the cause, he had a preminition of an earthquake. Truth is stranger than fiction.
