What I have read relates to the ability of the pitot system to pass the water through it in a heavy rain.  It apparently freezes, causing inaccurate readings.

However the QF-72 flight did not mention rain or point to the pitot system.  The ATSB blamed the AOA a seperate system.</description>

 Do you know the nitty gritty details of why the pitots were recommended to be replaced in the first place?      I have not seen that, but presume it was a heating coil fault.    I&#039;d be very interested in the answer to that.
