Dominique Bussereau, the French Transport Minister, was quoted by the London Times as saying; “The Airbus A310 that came down was a 19-year-old aircraft which had been banned from French air space since 2007 after an inspection at Paris airport found that it did not meet safety standards.”

It is now being reported that IY 626 crashed on the turn to final during an instrument approach just prior to midnight. Reuters and CNN are reporting the down aircraft is an Airbus 310-300. Yemenia Flight 626 left Sanaa at 21:30 bound for Moroni with 143 passengers and 11 crew. It is believed to have crashed with in an hour of landing at Moroni on Comoros.

Yemenia Airline, the Flag carrier for Yemen, has lost an aircraft with 150 people on board. Limited information is available at this time; the Yemeni website has crashed. Yemenia does operate the Airbus 330-200 (2) and 310-300 (4), as well as Boeing 737-800 (4) aircraft. The type of aircraft that went down is currently unknown.
