Low Flying 747 Airliner, Being Chased by Fighters, Panics New York City

Is it terrorist hijackers being chased by the US Air Force? Are the fighters maneuvering to shoot them down before they slam into a building? Nope; nothing to be alarmed about, it is just a VC-25A on a Photo Op.

In Aviation Safety: You Just Can’t Predict the Idiot Factor

Sometimes someone does something that is so absolutely stupid, it cannot be accurately factored or even predicted. Right on the heels of a near air disaster in Australia, a man deliberately flew a scale model at an airliner, causing another near miss.

Emirates Airline Pilots Involved in Tail Strike Reported to Have Resigned

It seems likely that the accident (tail strike) in Melbourne Australia was another case of pilot error. Sources reveal a 3 was entered incorrectly as a 2 in the gross weight entry of the aircrafts flight management system (FMS).

While holding short of runway 26 left, waiting to take off; it reminded me how fast things can go wrong in aviation. Just because the vast majority of pilots are good at what they do does not mean it is not inherently dangerous.

Garuda Airlines Captain sentenced to two years in prison for Boeing 737 accident.

Rather than proper training and governmental oversight, I believe this will be the future in third world countries as they confront the crisis of a lack of competent pilots. It is cheaper and no doubt easier to have a punitive and reactionary response vice a real solution.
