NASA put together what could be the largest RC (radio controlled) aircraft project. The test was actually for a new fuel that was supposed to be flame resistant. Obviously that part of the project was an abject failure.

I worked on a project to drone a Convair 880 a few years back for a TV network. We had it almost ready to go, and for a lot less money than the NASA program, when the network pulled the plug. It was a lot of fun putting the old QF-4 team together.

The video shows the intentional impact from various angels. Watch the centerline on the runway as a reference point and you can see that the operator lost control just prior to impact. It was supposed to be in a wings level attitude. That new flame retardant fuel sure did burn!
